The pain

Interactive running processes hang because there is no way to pass real-time user input.

Who'd pay

DevOps teams, system administrators, developers automating deployments and operations.

Signal that triggered it

"This would make OpenCode viable for a whole class of professional workflows — DevOps, system administration, deployment automation — that are currently out of reach."

[FEATURE]: Opt-in Host-Shell Execution Mode with Full stdin Passthrough

Published: Mar 22, 2026

When OpenCode executes commands requiring mid-execution user input such as sudo password prompts, SSH passphrases, package manager confirmations, or any interactive CLI tool, the process hangs or times out silently. There is no mechanism to detect when a process waits for input, surface the prompt, and pipe back the response. The proposed solution is an opt-in flag that runs commands inside the user's real terminal session with PTY, detects stdin prompts, surfaces them to the user (masking passwords), and pipes responses back, enabling professional workflows like system administration, deployment, and automation currently unreachable.
